Teaching Assistant to Qualified Maths Teacher

TiQ Programme – Salaried Teacher Training – Teaching Assistant to Maths Teacher

The TiQ programme is a salaried teacher training course where graduates start as a Teaching Assistant and work their way up to Qualified Teacher Status through a gradual increase in responsibilities, alongside a course of thorough professional development sessions and learning content, starting from when you work as a Teaching Assistant in order to prepare you for indepedent teaching.

Secondary schools across London are looking for aspiring maths teachers who are interested in a school-based training route with a salary, meaning you don’t have to go back to university. The schools aren’t necessarily looking for someone who is ready to start teaching straight away (although that would obviously be brilliant), they are looking for graduates with the right subject knowledge, motivations to teach and ability to build a rapport with pupils as a Teaching Assistant in order to start impacting on attainment from day one.

With TiQ, you can expect to be allowed the time to hone your skills, learn from others and find your feet in the school as a Teaching Assistant before starting to teach whole classes. This time as a Teaching Assistant will be invaluable in both growing in confidence in the classroom as well as gaining an insight in how to deploy your own Teaching Assistant when you begin teaching – which is an integral skill in becoming a successful teacher.

To apply to Teach in Qualified you need the following:

  • 2:2 or higher Honours degree – Mathematics or related degree
  • Cs or above in GCSE Maths & English
  • Experience of working with children – ideally as a Teaching Assistant or Tutor
